I have successfully removed another 100 items from my life, and made some nice steps towards dealing with some trickier emotional issues in relation to collecting and holding onto things unnecessarily. Although it took a long time, I’m really glad I persevered; I feel like I have got my mojo back with minimalism (I started listening to The Minimalists podcast recently which has helped as well). And so for a quick summary…
OMG I have been so behind on doing everything recently…. my big project at work completed, and it took up so much time and effort that I had just enough focus for that, keeping myself and the boyf fed and getting sleep and occasionally tidying the flat and that as it. But on a positive note I also finally rented the back room to a lovely lady called Sarah and her even more adorable cat Millie! But now I’m back and getting this blog going again!
Certain events have begun to focus my mind on my need to finish the big clear-out, mainly that I might need to leave my flat in September when I go back to university. Hopefully I will still be able to find a way around that issue (WHY WON’T ANYONE RENT MY SPARE ROOM?!?) but the extra incentive has meant another clear out this weekend, which is always a good thing!
Last week I went on a bit of a rant about NYE resolutions, and how if you are happy with life just maybe keep things as you are. But in it I mentioned about how if there is something you are unhappy with, try to identify it and make a change or changes to help solve that unhappiness.
Have you ever started something and then wished you hadn’t?
So I keep a little Excel sheet of my items that I am getting rid of as part of ‘The New 100 Game’, and on it, I also note down blog ideas for the future. I have a little note on it right now saying “New Year’s Resolutions (12/02) – Link back to blog New Items 37 to 56)”. Now I remember why I wrote that note; 12th Feb is 6 weeks after the New Year, and I was going to update on my progress on my NYE resolutions and talk a bit more about expanding my interests beyond throwing my possessions away… BUT I CAN’T REMEMBER WHAT MY SPECIFIC NYE RESOLUTIONS WERE. EPIC FAIL.
A small exercise in tidying up my getting ready area led me to two big realisations on my minimalist adventures…
